Emotes on dAmn

The chatrooms on dA are special as they allow a wider variety of emotes to be used than what you can use in other places of the site. Along with the ones on the Emoticon Legend you can also use emotes by posting their thumbnail codes or by using a special script to help post them.

Below are some more details on both of these.

Thumbnail codes

FAQ #511: How do I post thumbnails of my art on the Chat Network or Forums?

A thumbnail code is a special code which when used in certain places on the site, a small thumbnail of a deviation appears. As emotes are generally small, thumb codes allow you to post some additional emotes to those in the Emoticon Legend.

The thumb code can be found on the lower right side of any deviation. Each thumb code is different and looks similar to :thumb141131498:. By copying and pasting this into a chatroom and pressing enter, a thumbnail of the deviation should appear.

For thumb codes to work correctly in dAmn you must ensure thumbnails are turned on within the chatroom settings (only the chatroom moderators can change this setting) and the emote has to be smaller than 100x100 pixels.
Scripts

Since the many thumbnail codes are complicated to memorize, some deviants have written scripts to make it easier for you. Scripts can be rather complicated to get your head around at first, but they will vastly improve your dAmn experience if used correctly.

For any of the scripts to work you must be using the FireFox Web Browser and have Greasemonkey installed. Both are completely free and legal to download.

Zikes Emoticon Script

The Zikes Emoticon Script (commonly known as 'Zikes'), created by zikes, is a popular script for using emotes within dAmn. The script hooks up to a database filled with several thousand additional emoticons and allows you to use them by typing in certain :codes: similar to ones on the legend. The script does not include a visual interface at all, so if you want to do more than just use the codes (such as browse, add, modify the content) you will have to visit a separate website.

There are now two versions of the Zikes script.

The first links to a new database known as the emoteCLOUD. This allows new emotes to be added, as well as being able to add them under multiple codes.

The second copy links up to the old, now frozen database in which each emoticon has a single code. Unfortunately as the site hosting it has been frozen no new emotes can be added, but any previously entered are still available for use. If you have never used these scripts before, I suggest you use the CLOUD version of the script (above), as the old and frozen database better suits those who are already familiar with the list.

SuperdAmn

SuperdAmn, by electricnet, is an all-in-one script for dAmn chatrooms. It replaces several useful scripts to improve how the chatrooms work and function. One section of the script links up to the emoteCLOUD and allows you to use several thousand different emotes within the chatrooms, by typing in the corresponding :code:, similar to how the legend works. SuperdAmn also includes a visual interface for browsing and modifying the CLOUD database from within dAmn. You can find a full list of information on the script on this page.
